Quick Check In

Hello, I'm checking in, and letting everyone know where I'm at with my Project Emerald works. Since, I released Project Aries for a game jam back at the beginning of July, I thought I was ready to release the introduction to my mainline Emerald World series: Project Dawn. I used July to polish it up, but after playtesting, my friends (all art or book nerds, and the only people I can ask to help me out for free) all agreed that my dialogue flow was off, and that I rushed my art way too much. It took me a bit to realize they were right about the art, and my husband started to assist me with the script. The project ended up stalling when he got really busy at his job, and I did not want to attempt any art in case major changes were made to the script.

It only has five to six scenes (this is mostly a railroaded visual novel to open the plot and introduce the major characters), but I was able to get enough feedback to do one scene and there were a lot of changes to the event. Hopefully, next week or so, things will calm down at my husband's workplace, and I can resume progress on Project Dawn. I already talked about this in past updates, so I don't really want to go on about this too much. I swear I'm not being picky, once I have what I need to finish Project Dawn, I will post a longer post all about my progress on it.

Project Emerald's current version: The base version of my series has become too large to post as a browser play here. (Boo, and I just got the hang of how to post browser play for all my other current games...) Right now, the downloadable Windows version is available at least. I'm going to have to make a special zip file for the browser that will only contain under 1000 files. Rearranging, projects in RPG Maker can get complicated for someone like me, so this is yet another thing slowing me down. The whole point of Project Emerald is to show this game being built. I am currently brainstorming new ideas and abridging  my files to keep this going. It's possible that it just won't be a quick fix, but I will find a way to keep at least a demo on this page.

Finally, so I don't freeze while I wait for some help with all that, I decided to work on Project Rebirth. I talked about it already in a previous post, so I only have a little more to add. This will be a side story game (one shot), and I plan to do this one without getting any help, so I can see if this will come out looking like a game jam game or if I can make a better game on my own. Sort of an assessment to my improvement from say two years ago when I started to work seriously on all this. While the events in this game are what you would consider "cannon", this game is mostly just a way to change things up a little and experiment on new ideas. I'm hoping by next week, I'll be able to put together a design document to introduce this side project to everyone. I am really excited for this one and I have been wanting to make this game for so long.

In conclusion, I am juggling all three of these projects at the same time, so I don't have an actual release date for any of it. I really want Project Dawn to showcase my current best, I want players to take a sneak peek at my world, and try my combat, maybe even give feedback while Project Emerald is in progress, and I want to complete a new game. Currently, I am gathering everything I have already done in Rebirth, so I can show what I'm doing. When Dawn and the demo starts up again, I will pop in and let everyone know. Please look forward to it, I have so much to share and once I'm more organized, I will release some new design documents.

I hope this isn't too long for a status update. Thank you so much for reading and joining me on this incredible journey!
